Deadly Silence

And here I was so worried about negative feedback. It’s no feedback that will kill you; make you think the worst. Being ignored is worse than being shit one (figuratively.) I guess I need to find some promotional things to do. But if you have a day job is it worth it? I think I’ll just keep writing. Try to hone the craft. I wrote a novel, finished the fucker, which is more than most people can say. Still would be nice to get a couple readers.

Editing Sucks Monkey Tits

God, what a headache. This is why I was so damn happy when I took my last ‘writing’ course in college. I think I took all math and computer science classes for the last year and it was so nice to not have to re-write and pick and poke at commas and sentence structure and blah, blah, blah, puke. Again, much respect to you people who do this for a living.

I went so far as to take an online writing course to get my shit together. After putting my novel into a workshop, some jerk took me apart. He was right, but it hurt. It’s always that cold, merciless person that gives you the best advice. Overall though readers have been kind. No one is telling me to call Hollywood, but there aren’t pile of shit on the novel either.

Keep writing everyone and look for me next year to be more active here. (For real this time.)

Is bittersweet one word or two?  Nope, don’t care.  I was rejected by a couple new places, I’ve decided not to name them anymore.  It’s pointless more likely to piss someone off than anything else.  I was told my writing was good, which is awesome.  But in the same breath, I was told that I didn’t create enough conflict.  I  thought long and hard about my stories, and that is probably accurate.  There is not enough conflict in any of my stuff.  But, I think, in the end, I’m a little more intellectual, conflict is great but, my conflicts tend to be of the mind, internal not external, so you dumb fucker are just missing it, no just kidding, it’s not there. I will ‘action it up’ some, because I’d really like to get a few more things accepted, but mostly, because I want to get better at this.

Write, write and re-write

Turns out this little story I’ve been sending out really is crap.  I wrote it some time ago thought is was fine.  Then KZine rejected it with some feedback similar to what I’ve seen before.  So I read the damn thing, and they are right, it sucks.  So I rewrote it and and we will try again tonight.  Assume nothing! Ever!

First Attempt at Money 2012

So I have a story that I’ve submitted a couple times.  Once at Red Fez and once at Another Realm.  Both rejected, but whatever.  Red Fez claimed there was not enough story, I disagree.  I’m sure they did not like it, but I don’t think that was the reason.  There is a whole lot of story packed into 1500 words IMHO.  Another Realm did the worst thing that you can do to an author.  They did not respond at all.  I like them, I’m not bad mouthing, I like them very much, but no responses are useless.  If you don’t get a response, you have to write them again and remove you work for consideration, that simple.  Do this inside of 90 days or 90 days after they said they would get back to you.  I didn’t do this, but advise for you not me, fuck off.

Anyway, since I’ve set the goal to make some kind of money this year.  I’ve decided to only submit to publisher who pay.  Makes sense, right.  I sent this story off to Clarkesworld and we will see.

Now you go submit something, quit being a chickenshit sack of cowardice.

Update – 1/29/2012  – Rejection came back the next day from Clarkesworld.  No feedback.  Brutal.  I listened to their podcast though and it’s very good.  The story I heard was just fantastic. Check out “All the Painted Stars” written by Gwendolyn Clare.  Here.
